Jeff was romantically linked to actor Aubrey Plaza for over a decade. They first began dating in 2011, and in 2021, the White Lotus star let slip that they’d secretly gotten married.

After referring to Jeff as her “darling husband” in an Instagram post, Aubrey shared on The Drew Barrymore Show, “The marriage was just like a joke that honestly went too far. We got married on a whim. Literally decided at around 5 p.m. and got married at 8:30.”

After the news of Jeff’s death broke, Aubrey issued a brief statement to People, which read, “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

According to numerous outlets, including People and The Hollywood Reporter, a report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner states that Aubrey and Jeff had experienced “marital difficulties” and that they’d separated in September 2024.

The report purportedly states that Jeff made “concerning remarks” to Aubrey, which resulted in her calling a friend “to perform a welfare check” on him in Oct. 2024. Per People, the documents detail that Jeff went to therapy following the welfare check.

Furthermore, the report purportedly states that Aubrey received a text message from Jeff on the day of his death at 10:36 a.m. ET.
