This clip has left me with more questions than I started with.

Whether or not you’re a football fan, you’ve likely heard the name Bill Belichick before. He’s the legendary NFL coach with a record eight Super Bowl wins under his belt, lauded as one of the greatest sports coaches ever.

And while Bill has long been best known for his work with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, more recent headlines about the 73-year-old football coach have all been centered on his relationship with former cheerleader, Jordon Hudson, who is just 24.

For context, Bill and Jordon were first spotted together in January 2023, shortly after his split from his long-term partner, Linda Holliday. Aside from criticism of their near-50-year age gap, there’s been a lot of chatter about Bill and Jordon’s unconventional relationship — from the public nature of their romance to her close involvement with his professional life.

Now, as Bill promotes the release of his new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football, a recent interaction between the couple and a CBS News journalist has raised eyebrows, to say the least.

Appearing on CBS Sunday Morning on April 27, Bill sat down to discuss his book and was notably accompanied by Jordon, who was seated at a production table just out of shot, similar to where a publicist or manager might position themselves during a press interview. It’s not out of the ordinary for someone from a celebrity’s inner circle to be present for an interview like this, but what is unusual is that Jordon was described as a “constant presence” during their conversation and reportedly interrupted numerous times — including calling out one question about how she and Bill met.

So, during a particularly awkward clip from the CBS Sunday Morning segment, journalist Tony Dokoupil asked Bill how he felt about all of the public interest in their relationship. Brushing it off, he replied: “I’ve never been too worried about what everyone else thinks. I just try to do what I feel like is best for me, and what’s right.”

Following up, Tony asked how Bill and Jordon met, but before the former NFL coach could even begin to answer, his girlfriend chimed in from behind a monitor at the production table. “We’re not talking about this,” she said sternly, creating a whole lot of awkward tension. When Tony questioned the decision, Jordon doubled down, simply saying: “No.” “It’s a topic neither one of them is comfortable commenting on,” the journalist clarified in a voiceover.

Jordon and Bill’s unwillingness to discuss their first meeting has certainly raised a lot of questions, particularly in light of the fact that Jordon has previously corroborated reports that they met on a flight in February 2021. The awkward clip has gone incredibly viral thanks to various X posts, with many commenting on the “odd” and “weird” dynamic.

However, that wasn’t the only question about the romance that was swerved. Later in the interview, Bill was asked about his presence on Jordon’s Instagram page, and how the playful insight into their relationship, like photos of their Halloween costumes or them doing beach yoga together, shows a “different side” to his notoriously serious persona. In response, the football coach seemed confused by the question. “Yeah, so I’m on some of those social media platforms,” he said, after seeking more clarity from Tony, “but I honestly don’t follow.”

Jordon has previously defended the relationship and slammed criticism of her and Bill’s 49-year age difference. And, despite what spectators may feel, it appears Bill is appreciative of her strong input in his professional and personal life, describing her in his new book as his “idea mill and creative muse.”
