Angelina Jolie jokes about her ‘fall-back career’
Angelina Jolie is spilling the beans on her other plans before and after stardom.
The Oscar-winning actress, 49, made her first late-night talk show appearance in a decade on Thursday with her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Per a preview, Jolie disclosed to host Jimmy Fallon that she once considered becoming a funeral director, People Magazine reported.
It began with Fallon, 50, asking her to address rumours about other career choices she had in mind before she shot to fame.
“You’re an incredible actor, but I saw some things online,” the host began. “I was wondering if I could ask you if these rumors are true of other careers that you might have had. I’d be interested to see if any of these are real,” he asked the Salt star.
“I’m interested too. Okay,” Jolie replied with a smile.
“First of all, is it true that prior to acting you were studying to become a funeral director?” Fallon initiated.
“Yes,” Jolie replied, leaving Fallon surprised. She then proceeded with a laugh and jokingly added, “Doesn’t it make sense though?”
However, the award-winning actress had an explanation for it as she disclosed her motivation behind it.
The actress explains, “My grandfather died, and I remember thinking this is not how they should be. This should be a celebration of life. And since I’m not afraid of death and I was comfortable with it, I thought, ‘This would be a great career path for me. I could, like, make this better. I could do a thing here.'”
Fallon agreed with the mom-of-six, and added, “We need more people like that,” to which Jolie further joked, “It’s my fall-back career now.”
It is pertinent to mention that this is not the first time Jolie has spoken about her former ambitions. The actress originally spilled the beans on her former ambition to become a funeral director back in a 2011 interview.
“It sounds like this very strange, eccentric, dark thing to do. But, in fact, I lost my grandfather and I was very upset with his funeral,” Jolie told 60 Minutes at the time.
“So we discussed that maybe there are ways where this whole idea of how somebody passes and how a family deals with this passing and what death is should be addressed in a different way. If this acting thing didn’t work out, that was gonna be my backup.”
On the work front, Jolie is currently promoting her film Maria, in which she portrays late opera singer Maria Callas.
