Ariana Grande Is Officially Leading Oscar Predictions For “Wicked” — And Here’s My Brutally Honest Opinion, As Someone Who’s Seen It

“She’s better than any other actor right now.”
The hype around Wicked feels unprecedented, TBH. Not only is the movie EVERYWHERE, but most importantly, every single critic had a glowing review.
Well, I’m happy to report that we’ve got a new update — and this time, it has to do with the Oscars. Variety has announced their predictions for the 2025 Oscars, and Ariana Grande has made the list.

Cynthia Erivo also made the list of potential nominees for Best Actress, and Wicked was their projected Best Picture winner.
They ranked her at number 1 on their predicted nominees for Best Supporting Actress, alongside Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Perez and Isabella Rossellini for Conclave at number 2 and 3. As it stands, Ariana is their projected winner.

So amidst all this buzz, as a longtime musical theatre girlie, I HAD to see Wicked at the earliest opportunity to find out if the hype is truly justified.
I was lucky enough to attend a pre-screening on Nov. 20. And uhhh, guys? Even though I’m a notoriously tough critic, I have to agree: Wicked: Part One is phenomenal.

I never cry during movies, and I may have shed a tear or two at the end.
Not only is every single aspect of the film spectacular, but truly, Ariana was the highlight for me. The whole time, I couldn’t stop thinking: I can’t believe this is the same person who sings “Side to Side” with Nicki Minaj. Her range is jaw-dropping.

No offense to Nicki Minaj, but you know what I mean.
In Wicked, Ariana dominates in both serious and comedic scenes, and it’s clear her months of vocal training paid off. She was pretty much made to play Glinda, and I’m so excited to see her kill it in future acting roles!
So all that considered, it’s a no-brainer to me that Ariana deserves the Oscar. If she doesn’t take home the award on March 2, I will be deeply angered. But for now, I’m just gonna celebrate her making it to the top of the predictions list!

Of course, I’m just one of millions of Wicked fans. But it looks like everyone is pretty much in agreement — so I guess we’ll have to find out when nominations drop on Jan. 17.
ariana’s a better actress than meryl streep and nicole kidman

The only reason I predict her is because out of all supporting performances so far she checks every box .. triple threat performance.. more than a couple emotional scenes… very funny and looks iconic
