Dwayne Johnson achieves a rare milestone
Dwayne Johnson has achieved a rare Hollywood milestone with his movies Moana 2 and Red One.
According to Deadline, in November 2024, Johnson starred in Amazon MGM Studios’ Red One, which opened at No. 1 on November 15 with $32.1 million.
He also played a major role in Disney’s Moana 2, which set a record for “the best Thanksgiving opening ever” and could earn “$200 million over five days.”
It was also reported that during the Thanksgiving weekend, moviegoers spent “about $218 million on Moana 2 and Red One,” getting a double dose of Johnson at the box office.
The same outlet mentioned that it is rare for a Hollywood star to have two No. 1 theatrical releases in the same month.
Notably, in December 2002, there was a lot of attention on Leonardo DiCaprio when he dropped two movies just five days apart.
Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York opened on December 20, and Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can came out on December 25, but neither movie had a No. 1 opening for DiCaprio.
In addition, Chris Pratt’s film The Super Mario Bros. Movie opened on April 5, 2023, with $146.3 million in 3-days, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 came out on May 5, 2023, with $118.4 million.
However, Johnson’s media schedule was carefully planned by Amazon MGM and Disney over the past few months.
Also, Johnson attended the New York City premiere of Red One and the Hawaii and London premieres of Moana 2 the same day.
It is pertinent to mention that other than Moana 2 and Red One, Johnson has worked in movies, including Fast & Furious, Central Intelligence, Bay Watch, and Black Adam.
