Ed Sheeran shares ‘awkward’ experience with Elton John

Ed Sheeran just revealed a rather “awkward” conversation he had with his mentor, Sir Elton John.
The Shape of You singer admitted that previously the Rocket Man hitmaker, who is also his mentor and pal, mispronunced his surname.
In a candid chat with Capital Breakfast, the 34-year-old award winning singer, was played a clip of Elton, calling him “Ed Shirr-ann.”
Laughing, he revealed that in the end, Ed did try and correct the iconic musician’s mispronunciation.
“I know, mate,” he said, adding, “I’ve actually had the awkward conversation with him, being like, ‘I’ve known you for 15 years, it’s not Shirr-ann’, but it’s just one of those things.”
However, when the show hosts suggested that Ed “couldn’t really argue with him (Elton John)” the Azizam crooner confessed, “Well, I can. I can, and I do – but I don’t know, I think it’s quite nice.”
Revealing that the Hakuna Matata talent’s unique pronunciation had grown on to him, Ed Sheeran stated, “It’s just his way. It’s like my parents always call me Edward. I’m not Ed to them. I’ll always be Edward, and I just think I’ll always be Ed Shirr-ann to Elton.”
