If you fought in The Great (Ticketmaster) War for Taylor Swift tickets — or spend your days refreshing queues in hopes for last-minute drops — you know how absolutely impossible Eras Tour tickets are to come by.

And even if you’re not a Taylor fan, I’m certain you’re aware of how absurdly expensive resale tickets are going for…like, I’m talking THOUSANDS of dollars per ticket. For one concert. All this to say, the value of Taylor Swift tickets can’t be understated.

TBH, I get it, though. Money comes back, but The Eras Tour will only be in your home city once.

So as we near the very end of The Eras Tour, many people have been looking forward to this event since tickets first dropped. Like, for context, I bought my tickets for the Nov. 23, 2024 show way back in August 2023. A year and three months ago.

And a LOT can change in that time. This one Toronto couple is a perfect example of that. Although initially intending to attend The Eras Tour in Toronto together, they’ve since separated, and have been “fighting for who gets the seats.”

Jane Cvijan, who is a senior legal counsel at a Toronto law firm, explained how it all went down in an interview with Canadian news organization CP24. “A couple who had purchased the tickets while they were still together are now figuring out how they are going to handle that now that the concert is taking place after their separation,” she said.

It’s nothing new (hehe) for a divorcing couple to negotiate over valuable possessions, but Eras Tour tickets is definitely a surprising one, even to Jane herself.

And because it’s not just any ol’ concert, this situation came with its own unique complications. “In this case, because of the very specific concert that we are dealing with, the actual market value was going to be so much more than what the couple actually purchased the tickets for,” Jane explained.

The article says that, at the end of the day, the couple had to pick between 3 choices: “They could go to the concert together, one person could buy the tickets off the other for the current market value, or they could sell both tickets and split the proceeds.”

So considering tickets are going for thousands of dollars on StubHub and similar websites, these are some hefty choices.

And honestly? It genuinely does sound like a hard decision. Like, I really don’t know which one I would personally go for — they all seem like compromises I wouldn’t want to make after waiting over a year to attend the concert.

So what happened? Well unfortunately, there’s a bit of a cliffhanger. Because of confidentiality reasons, we don’t know exactly which option the couple chose. But we do know that after thinking it over, they made a choice together, and were both “happy with the outcome.”

Which, like, good for them — because I really don’t know if I could make a mature decision about it.

Anyway, this genuinely sounds like a storyline out of a TV show to me. The internet has expressed their thoughts, as per usual:

So there you go: your daily reminder that Taylor Swift indeed rules us all. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. But before I go, tell me your thoughts on this in the comments below — it’s time to justify your choice.
