It Looks Like Taylor Swift Won’t Be Releasing “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” — Here’s Why

The Grammy-winning singer posted on Instagram today that — surprise! — she now owns all of her music again. If you recall, there was a whole to-do about Scooter Braun supposedly buying her masters, which meant that, essentially, Taylor’s music didn’t belong to her. That caused Taylor to re-record several of her albums, calling them “(Taylor’s Version).” But now, it appears that it won’t be necessary for Taylor to re-record any more of her discography.
“You belong with me,” Taylor wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, which includes photos of her with all of her old albums spread out around her. She also dropped a letter on her website explaining what this all means, and that’s the part that has fans conflicted.

“All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,” she wrote. “And all my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs … To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it.”

Taylor then goes on to talk about the project that her fans have been eagerly awaiting for many months now: Reputation (Taylor’s Version), or Rep TV for short. “I know. I know. What about Rep TV?” she wrote. “Full transparency: I haven’t even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it.”
