Jack Black, Paul Rudd set to work on major new project in Queensland
Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in Queensland to film a highly anticipated reboot of the 1997 cult horror classic Anaconda.
The original film, which starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, and Jon Voight, followed a group of filmmakers navigating the Amazon jungle while facing a monstrous anaconda.
According to Daily Mail, the reboot, directed by Tom Gormican and produced by Sony, has been described as a “reimagining” of the original, with a fresh twist reminiscent of the 2018 hit shark movie The Meg.
Moreover, the plot reportedly centers on a group of friends experiencing mid-life crises who set out to recreate their favorite movie from their youth.
Taking to social media, Black and Rudd teased fans with a humorous homemade trailer.
In regards to this, Black joked, “It might be called The Anaconda… Whatever, there’s gonna be a big f****** snake,” while Rudd added, “You wanna laugh? Get scared? Forget your problems? It’s coming in 2025!”
As per the publication, the production, set in the Amazon, will use Queensland’s lush rainforests as a stand-in for the jungle.
Additionally, the film is projected to inject $40 million into the local economy and create over 300 jobs. It has received significant funding from Screen Queensland and a 30% federal tax rebate as part of Australia’s Production Attraction Strategy, as per the outlet.
Furthermore, fans of the original can expect an entirely new storyline, with the reboot steering away from a direct remake or sequel.
Meanwhile, Black hinted at the thrilling tone of the film, ending the trailer with, “Have you seen the snake? They’re about to feed it a donkey!”
As per Daily Mail’s claims, the film is generating buzz as one of Queensland’s biggest productions, alongside other projects like Bluey and an adaptation of the 1980s cartoon Voltron.
