The news comes days after Matthew McConaughey, Whoopi Goldberg, and Michael B. Jordan all voiced their support for the former Marvel actor.
Warning: Discussion of domestic violence.
Rolling Stone have claimed that an audio recording they’ve obtained is of Jonathan Majors admitting to strangling his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.

In 2023, Jonathan was found guilty of one count of assault and one count of harassment against Grace. Following the verdict, he was dropped from his role as a major Marvel villain. The actor has denied culpability and subsequently said in an interview that he was responsible for “none of her injuries.” A lawyer for Grace said that Jonathan showed “no accountability for his actions” and “demonstrates a clear lack of remorse for his actions.”

Another ex-girlfriend, Emma Duncan, has accused Jonathan of physical abuse — which he has denied.
This weekend, Jonathan was unveiled as the cover star of the latest issue of the Hollywood Reporter. In it, he says of the aftermath of the trial, “It’s a heartbreak like I’ve never experienced and it just compounded and compounded.”

The piece, which posits whether Jonathan is geared for a comeback, is accompanied with flattering quotes from other celebrities. “You don’t get to say sorry these days,” his When We Rise costar Whoopi Goldberg said. “He was arrested. He went to court. He did what he was supposed to do. I’m not sure what else there is.”

Matthew McConaughey, who acted alongside Jonathan in White Boy Rick, further told THR, “I’ve known and know him as someone who is continuously striving to improve as a human, a man and an actor. I believe in him.”

Now, Rolling Stone is claiming that they obtained a recording of Jonathan and Grace following a fight they had in 2022. In the audio, a male voice that is allegedly Jonathan says he’s “ashamed,” before saying, “I’ve never [been] aggressive with a woman before. I’ve never aggressed a woman — I aggressed you.”

Grace then reportedly replies, “You strangled me and pushed me against the car.” To this, Jonathan allegedly says, “Yes, all those things are under ‘aggressed,’ yeah.”

BuzzFeed has reached out to a representative for Jonathan for comment. An attorney for Grace declined to comment on the Rolling Stone story.
