In 1996, JonBenét was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her parents, Patsy and John Ramsey’s home in Boulder, Colorado.

No one was ever charged with the murder, which sparked several documentaries and conspiracy theories over the years — including the theory that the “Firework” singer is really the slain child beauty queen.

If you were deep on the internet circa 2014, you might remember when a wild YouTube video went viral that alleged that Katy was actually JonBenét.

The seven-minute voiceover video alleged a huge conspiracy theory claiming that JonBenét was never murdered and that it was an elaborate plot to cover up her rise to stardom.
The now-deleted video in question was titled “‘JonBenet Ramsey’ is singer ‘Katy Perry'” and claimed that Katy’s real parents were Patsy and John Ramsey, and they faked their daughter’s death by strangulation and covered it up so she could become famous. The video also suggested that Katy’s appearance was evidence that she was just an adult JonBenét.

The internet is filled with dozens of these “JonBenét Ramsey is Katy Perry” videos, and they are absolutely bananas. Aside from making claims about her death being faked, they seriously theorize that Katy’s facial features, like her eyebrows, the bridge of her nose, jaw shape, etc., are clear indicators that they are the same person.

Fast-forward to 2025, and now, with the advancement of AI-generated content, videos are circulating showing how JonBenét transformed into Katy. Katy saw one of these videos, and she responded to the out-of-this-world theory.

On a Feb. 27 AI-generated video with the words “WAKE UP PPL,” JonBenét, dressed in a pink dress, miraculously transforms into an adult blond-haired Katy. Katy responded to the video, “wait am i,” proving that she’s very much aware of this ridiculous theory.

Set aside YouTube videos with deep voiceovers and AI Instagram videos for a second. There’s one pretty solid reason why this conspiracy theory is ludicrous — JonBenét was born on Aug. 6, 1990, and Katy was born on Oct. 25, 1984.

They’re not even close to the same age for one. So, put it to rest.
Ridiculous theories aside, the investigation surrounding JonBenét is ongoing as her father continues to try to solve the case. NBC News reported in January that he met with Boulder’s new police chief, saying, “I’m just very impressed with the caliber of the leadership now, and that gave me great hope.” Meanwhile, Patsy died of cancer in 2006.
