Kim Kardashian Admitted That Her Time In India Wasn’t What She Envisioned Because She Thought It’d Be Like “Aladdin”

“At least there’s a Starbucks here,” Khloé observed on her and Kim’s trip to Mumbai.
Back in July, Kim Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian were among the celebrity guests who attended the wedding of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani. Anant married Radhika Merchant, daughter of Indian pharma tycoons Viren and Shaila Merchant, in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Mumbai, India, after a month of extravagant pre-wedding celebrations.

Eight months later, Kim and Khloé have shared some behind-the-scenes insight into the lavish wedding on their reality show The Kardashians, with this week’s episode documenting their 48-hour trip for the ceremonies — but India wasn’t exactly how Kim envisioned it would be.

The sisters landed in India at midnight and then went straight into fittings for their wedding outfits in a bid to utilize their limited time in the country. The next day, they had even more fittings, but afterward, they decided to explore some of the local markets before the celebrations kicked off that evening.

Khloé explained in a confessional: “We’re only here for 48 hours, and we do have a schedule; we’re planning to go to some of the local markets before we have to go to the wedding so we can enjoy as much of India as possible.”
“We want to go explore the city,” Kim echoed, adding that they also needed to pick up souvenirs for their kids.
But things got off to a rocky start when the sisters were informed that they would be walking from the hotel to the markets, with the hustle and bustle of Mumbai being captured with scenic shots of people walking through the streets, rickshaws in the roads, and constant car horns honking.

“Shouldn’t we just get a taxi?” Kim asked before being startled by a stray dog. “Oh! I don’t do random dogs!”

“At least there’s a Starbucks here,” Khloé pointed out in response, with a somewhat warmer reaction toward the street dog.
“I thought it was going to be, like, the marketplace,” Kim added, and when her hairstylist, Chris Appleton, asked if where they were wasn’t a market, Kim replied: “No, this is like the streets.”

“We are not in Calabasas anymore,” Khloé said in a confessional. “There’s rickshaws going by, everyone was so surprised, like: ‘What the fuck are these people doing here?’”
“A little bit of mayhem in the streets of India,” Kim quipped.
Khloé then explained: “We thought we were going to more of a marketplace, like a spice market,” which is when Kim admitted that she thought Mumbai would be more like what is seen in the 1992 Disney movie Aladdin, which is set in the fictional Middle Eastern city of Agrabah.

“What you see Aladdin going to and stealing the bread from,” she said. “That’s where I thought we were going.”
Kim and Khloé were then shown exploring local market stalls, where Kim picked up a Princess Jasmine figurine for her 7-year-old daughter, Chicago. She and Khloé also bought jewelry for their children, as well as silver pill boxes for their entire family.

The two even ended up taking a rickshaw back to their hotel, with the entire thing documented on their social media pages at the time.

Elsewhere in the episode, Kim debunked widespread speculation that she had broken protocol with her outfit at the wedding. When photos of her look first emerged back in July, the star was heavily criticized for wearing red — a color that is typically reserved for the bride in Hindu celebrations.

However, Khloé explained that the designers they were working with for the wedding were affiliated with the Ambani family, and every choice that she and Kim were presented with had already been pre-approved by them.
“In the olden days in India, you couldn’t wear red,” Kim explained to the camera. “But now red is accepted, so I’m gonna wear red.”
