Margot Robbie recalls hitting Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’
Margot Robbie has revealed why she insisted on being completely nude in a scene in The Wolf of Wall Street and how she hit Leonardo DiCaprio too hard during the audition.
Robbie, 34, revealed that director Martin Scorsese was all for making changes to the scene for her comfort, but she insisted otherwise.
She recounted: “‘But I said, ‘That’s not what she would do in that scene. The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing’”.
Speaking on the Talking Pictures podcast, she recalled her audition process for the role, saying, “My managers made me redo my audition tape five times because it wasn’t good enough.”
In the audition scene, she thought, “I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome.”
“I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this. And then I thought… nah. And just walloped him in the face. It was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds,” the Barbie star continued.
She added: “And then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said ‘that was great’. I was thinking, ‘I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault, battery.’”
Robbie also worried that she’d hit the Titanic star too hard: “Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot. And also why did you have to hit him so hard, you should have done it lighter.”
