Miley Cyrus names person behind her controversial pole dance at award show
Miley Cyrus has finally addressed her controversial pole dance performance at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards
On November 22, in a conversation with her sister, Brandi Cyrus, for Spotify’s Billions Club series, the 32-year-old singer revealed that her mom, Tish Cyrus, was behind the infamous moment.
The Flowers hitmaker asked Brandi, “Do you know whose idea that was?”
When Brandi correctly guessed it was their mom’s idea, Miley said, “Yup, that was my mom’s idea. So she always lets me take the blame.”
The songstress recalled, “When I got in trouble the next day, you know who was nowhere to be found? Tish Cyrus.”
“The thing that I remember most about that performance was it was the first time I ever wore real diamond jewelry on stage,” said the Hannah Montana star.
“So you guys remember a little old ice cream truck, I remember the diamonds,” she quipped.
For those unversed, Miley performed her hit song Party in the USA at the Teen Choice Award in 2009 while dancing with a metal pole mounted on an ice cream cart set on stage.
The performance sparked widespread backlash because Miley was just 16 at that time.
