Met Gala

As you probably know, the Met Gala is a lavish celebrity event that happens once a year, and every year, one of the biggest sources of contention surrounding the calendar highlight is attendees who don’t follow the dress code.

If you didn’t know, the Met is infamous for always having a specific theme that encompasses the whole evening, as well as a related dress code that those in attendance are expected to follow.

This is why celebrities typically go all out for their Met look, with outfits that you wouldn’t normally see on just any red carpet. It’s also why the people who dress incredibly plainly — like all the men who wear a simple black suit — face the wrath of the public once the photos emerge online.

But it turns out there’s one regular attendee who couldn’t care less about the backlash, with Naomi Campbell candidly admitting that she never follows the theme when she attends the gala. In fact, she wasn’t even sure what last year’s one was when she was literally on her way to the event.

In a new episode of her YouTube series, Being Naomi, the British model documented herself preparing for last year’s Met, including footage from her Burberry fitting, and her “anxiety” during the car ride from her hotel to the red carpet.

For reference, last year’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the dress code was “The Garden of Time,” but Naomi didn’t seem too sure as she made her way to the gala.

Speaking to the camera, she said: “I don’t follow themes, I’m sorry. I just flow. I think it’s something to do with Sleeping Beauty, awakening something. I’m sorry.”

Naomi, 54, also admitted to feeling as though she is getting “too old” for the stress of the event, as she claimed that last year’s would be her final gala. For reference, Naomi first attended the Met in 1990, at age 20.

“This is my last Met. It is my last. I can’t
I’m too old. It’s too much for me, the anxiety,” she said. “I don’t know what number this is, I think it could be either 20 or 21, can you imagine?!”

And we don’t have to wait too long to find out if Naomi was being serious about 2024 being her final gala, as this year’s Met is just one week away.

If you’re wondering, 2025’s theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with a “Tailored for You” dress code — which, even if she is attending, I’m sure that Naomi isn’t aware of.
