Last month, a whole bunch of celebrities got together to mark Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary with a special live episode full of hilarious skits and famous faces. One of these sketches was “Domingo,” which first went viral in October 2024 when Ariana Grande, Heidi Ego, and Sarah Sherman sang a version of “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter.

So, it was perhaps inevitable that Sabrina would take part in the sketch for SNL50, and the star was joined on stage by actor Pedro Pascal, who played Ronaldo. As part of the act, Pedro had a short song to sing to the tune of “Espresso” about how he’d hooked up with the groom at a wedding, however, viewers were left feeling bad for the star as he seemingly struggled to find the beat.

“Hey man,” Pedro began, before repeating: “Hey… Hey man…” he then found his cue and continued with the rest of the song.

At the time, people had nothing but full sympathy for the beloved actor as they posted on social media to acknowledge the blunder. And now, Pedro himself has addressed what happened, and said that he was “really, really upset” to have missed the cue not once but three times.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pedro called the sketch his “nightmare of karaoke,” and said he was the first person to mess up during that night’s live show. He recalled: “I was the first record scratch of the night by missing my cues like three times in a row.”

“I remember thinking: ‘Fuck! I fucked up!” Pedro continued. “I was really, really upset with myself for missing the cues. I feel like there was a cognitive and auditory failure on my part where I was so nervous I really couldn’t hear what was happening or what the cue was. I guess no matter what kind of singing and how bad or funny it’s supposed to be, I have just sheer terror of having to sing in any kind of capacity.”

The star went on to reveal that Sabrina warned him just before the skit that she planned to grind “hard” on him, which he did not have an issue with — however, he admitted that he can barely remember his experience on SNL50 outside of his mistake.

“[Sabrina] was like: ‘OK! So I got a note last minute.’ And I was like: ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah,’ she’s like: ‘I’m going to be grinding on you hard.’ And I was like: ‘You do whatever you want,’” Pedro shared. “And then before I knew it, we were up on stage. It’s kind of like an outer body experience that I can barely recall outside of my fuck up.”

Personally, I don’t think that Pedro should be so hard on himself! You can rewatch the clip below and let me know your thoughts on everything in the comments:
