The topic was broached during El Salvador President Nayib Bukeleâs White House visit yesterday, where Bukele claimed he does not have the power to â and will not â return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the US.
For those who donât know, Kilmar is a Maryland man who the Department of Justice says they mistakenly deported. Since then, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration should facilitate Kilmarâs release and return. Meanwhile, the Trump admin similarly claims they have no say in the matter.

Continuing to speak on deportations during Bukeleâs visit, Trump went on to tell reporters, âIâd like to go a step further⊠I donât know what the laws are, we always have to obey the laws, but we also have homegrown criminals that push people into subways. That hit elderly ladies on the back of the head with a baseball bat when theyâre not looking.â

âThat are absolute monsters,â he continued. âIâd like to include them in the group of people to get them out of the country, but youâll have to be looking at the laws on that.â
Later, Trump doubled down when another reporter asked, âYou mentioned that youâre open to deporting individuals that arenât born aliens, but are criminals, to El Salvador. Does that include, potentially, US citizens fully naturalized in America?â
Q: Are you considering deporting American citizens to El Salvador?
Trump: Yeah that includes them, you think theyâre a special type of people or something? pic.twitter.com/L53aSPsmLw

To which Trump responded: âIf theyâre criminals and if they hit people with baseball bats over the head that happened to be 90 years old â if they rape 87-year-old women in Coney Island, Brooklyn, yeah.â
âYeah that includes them,â he continued, speaking of Americans. âYou think theyâre a special category of person? Theyâre as bad as anybody that comes in.â
According to PBS, âImmigrants can be deported from the United States, while citizens cannot. Deportation is covered by immigration law, which does not apply to U.S. citizens. Part of being a citizen means you cannot be forcibly sent to another country.â
