People Are Roasting The Streamer Max For Changing Its Name Back To HBO Max

“X its your turn to change back to Twitter.”
Once upon a time, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to drop HBO from its streaming service’s name to just become Max, but it’s changing… again.
During that identity crisis, it was rather tricky to figure out what was happening because HBO and Max branding existed separately and together, even though the streamer didn’t have the combined name anymore. It was exhausting.

In an announcement at Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront 2025, just a couple of months after Max changed the color of its logo to look like HBO’s classic color scheme, the company revealed the switch-back.

Variety reported that Warner Bros. Discovery said in a press release, “returning the HBO brand into HBO Max will further drive the service forward and amplify the uniqueness that subscribers can expect from the offering.”
“It is also a testament to WBD’s willingness to keep boldly iterating its strategy and approach — leaning heavily on consumer data and insights — to best position itself for success,” WBD said per Variety.
People immediately started cracking jokes at the flip-flopping name. Some people completely ignored the first few waves of name changes the entire time.

Another person said, “LMAOOO they saw everyone was deadnaming it either way and changed back.”
A bunch of people are finding the name switcheroo and switch-back quite hilarious, and found more than one way to clown the streamer’s apparent identity crisis.

This person suggested it’s a “missed opp not to call it HBO To The MAX,” and I audibly gasped.
