People Are Sharing Their Favorite Episodes Of “Bluey”
Bluey has been a big hit for several years now, both with adults and children. It’s heartwarming, funny, and hugely relatable. I recently asked the Buzzfeed Community which episodes are their favorites — here are their passionate responses:
“Baby Race” and “Sleepytime” hit home for MANY community members:
1. “‘Baby Race.’ As a first-time mom, I SOBBED when Coco’s mom told Chilli she was doing a great job. It absolutely NAILS that weird combination of competition, envy, worry, and guilt that comes with motherhood.”
2. “‘Baby Race’ and ‘Sleepytime.’ I’ve only recently begun to be able to watch either one without crying. ‘Baby Race’ meant a lot to me when I was a new mom and felt like I was doing everything wrong, and ‘Sleepytime’ is just gorgeously animated and scored. I actually started watching that show for myself, before my son was old enough to even notice a television. I was embarrassed, until I found out just how many adults love it, too.

3. “As a mom who’s had five kids over a pretty wide time span (oldest is 20 years old and youngest is 23 months) I have seen a ton of kids shows over the years. Bluey takes the cake! It’s the best, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be a toss up between ‘Baby Race’ and ‘The Creek.’ The ‘Baby Race’ one when Coco’s mom came to tell Chilli she was doing a great job!!! I cried so hard!! The ‘Creek’ episode just makes me nostalgic…sigh…no other kid show can compare or compete with Bluey.”

4. “I have a few, ‘Sleepytime’ was such a beautiful and funny journey through dreams and what being brave is as a child. ‘Baby Race’ has given me my own mothering mantra, ‘You’re doing great,’ and ‘Rain,’ almost no dialogue but beautiful music, and you can see the whimsy of childhood along with the struggles of parenthood.”
5. “‘Baby Race’ and ‘Sleepytime’ are the two that get me all teary-eyed. When Chilli is feeling like she’s failing as a mom and being told by another mom, ‘You’re doing a good job,’ it gets me choked up EVERY TIME! It’s hard being a mom, and sometimes you just need reassurance! As for ‘Sleepytime,’ I co-slept with my oldest for a while, and my youngest and I still co-sleep on/off, so to have Bingo say she ‘wants to have a big girl sleep’ in her own bed is a BIG thing. The episode is SO BEAUTIFULLY done but the part that I cry like a baby, is when Bingo is racing towards the ‘sun’ for comfort and warmth and the ‘sun’ a.k.a. Chilli tells her, ‘I’ll always be here for you’…as a parent, it just touches my soul.”

6. “My all-time favorite Bluey episode (and really, it’s so hard to choose) has got to be ‘Baby Race.’ My son never crawled. He was a bum-shuffler, almost exactly like baby Bluey in the episode. He needed therapy with our local infants and toddlers group and didn’t start walking until he was 18 months old. The first time I watched this episode with him, I was feeling all the same self-doubt and concern that Chilli experienced in the episode. I sob every time I watch it when it gets to the part where Coco’s mom reassures Chilli that she’s ‘doing great.’ I think sometimes Moms just need to hear it from someone else before they can allow themselves to believe it.”

7. “‘Baby Race’ (always). It was 2020, and we just gave birth to our son during lockdown. We were struggling with being new parents without any help. Our infant son was a handful as he had trouble sleeping and eating, so needless to say, we were stressed out. On top of it all, both of our parents were NOT helpful and made us feel like horrible parents by calling us ‘crazy’ or ‘delusional.’ We watched Bluey and ‘Baby Race’ came on. It not only helped us calm down about being parents, but gave us the encouragement that our own parents failed to give us. ‘You are doing great’ (tears still).”

8. “The episode where the father pretends he cannot move but the kids want to go get ice cream. They have to roll him down the stairs outside and enlist help to get him in the car. He never broke the game! I laughed so hard throughout the episode! And the one when Chilli talks about Bluey as a baby developing slightly slower than the other babies at play group (‘Baby Race’) had me crying! Such a good show for kids and grandmas alike!”

It’s relatable because I have a 4 year old who sometimes has a hard time staying in her own bed at night, or she needs me or her dad to lie in her bed with her until she falls asleep. Mum being the sun in Bingo’s dream just gets me, especially when she says, ‘Remember I’ll always be there for you, even if you can’t see me, because I love you.’ Instant waterworks almost every time.”

12. “There is something about the ‘Cricket’ episode that makes my husband tear up every time. For me it’s ‘Sleepytime.’ It’s the balance of wanting your kids to grow and thrive but still wanting to hold them close and protect them.”

14. “Season 3: ‘Cricket.’ Rusty is a middle child in a military family, and it seems his dad is away often. The episode shows him adapting to different circumstances in order to keep playing his favorite sport rather than using challenges as excuses to give up. We get to see him learning how to be brave and dedicated while remaining kind and humble. He bests all the dads and gives his baby sister a chance to shine — I cry every single time I watch it! I’m just so proud of Rusty!”

“Octopus” addresses that all of us have different personalities and parent our children differently:
17. “‘Octopus’ — As an autistic parent I loved seeing someone like me represented on the show! I don’t really relate to Bandit, but I saw so much of myself and my parenting style in Chloe’s dad.”

18. “‘Octopus’ is one that really resonates with me. Like Chloe’s Dad, I am not comfortable playing in a way like Bandit does. It really makes me feel inferior sometimes, but that’s just not how I am. However, like Chloe, just the act of being involved and adapting the play so it works for everyone, is all that is needed. On a lighter note, I love ‘Fairytale’ too. ‘It was the ’80s!””
“Onesies” holds a special place in the hearts of those struggling with infertility, as well as opens a door for discussing the topic with children:
19. “‘Onesies’ — the first time I saw that episode I burst into tears. It took 4 years and multiple rounds of IVF to get pregnant with my son. A LOT is being said in the subtext of Aunt Brandy’s narrative. I know it is a children’s show but to have such a hugely popular children’s show address infertility made me feel seen. For those of us who know the heartbreak, that episode was perfect. For everyone else it goes right over their head. And when Brandy casually shows up pregnant to the wedding in ‘The Sign’… it was everything.”
20. “‘Onesies’ — dealing with infertility and trying to figure out how to tell my daughter she would likely not have a little sibling. I sobbed.”

21. “‘Onesies’ made me cry because my husband and I have been struggling with infertility for the past five years. I was shocked that they tackled a subject like that in a kids’ show. Infertility isn’t talked about enough (and when it is talked about, it’s usually a bunch of misinformation), so it was refreshing to see.”
23. “One of my favourites is ‘Takeaway.’ The chaos that can happen in such a short time where children are involved is so relatable. And as an elementary teacher, the episode ‘Calypso’ is life goals.”
