Prince William revealed why he took nine years to propose to Kate Middleton for marriage despite meeting her in university.
The now-Prince of Wales met Kate for the first time at St Andrews in 2001. The couple went public with their relationship in 2004.
Six years later, William proposed to Kate with the couple officially announcing their engagement in October 2010 and tying the knot in 2011.
According to royal photographer Arthur Edwards, William had revealed that he delayed proposing to Kate because he wanted to complete his military service and attend business school first.
In a conversation with The Sun, the photographer revealed, “I once asked William why he’s not getting married till he was 30.”
“He said, ‘because I have to go to the army, because one day I’ll be head of the forces, I’ll have to go in the army, after going to the Navy, I have to go in the Air Force and the Marines,” he added.
Arthur continued: “He said, ‘then I’ve got to go to business school, and there’s just no time before that.”
He also revealed that William shared with him another reason why he took time to asking Kate for marriage as he wanted to make sure that their union would last forever.
“Once William told me the reason he and Kate took their time getting engaged was because he wanted to make sure his marriage would last forever,” Arthur said.
