Rebecca Black Released “Friday” 13 Years Ago — Now, She’s Making A Massive Comeback With A New Song And The Internet Is *Obsessed*
“The brat era of Rebecca Black is upon us.”
I don’t care what anyone says: the year 2011 was defined by one person. And her name is Rebecca Black.
Yep, we’re talking about the artist behind the absolutely iconic song “Friday,” which took the world by storm when Rebecca was only 13 years old. The music video btw now has more than 170 MILLION views.
And now, 13 years later, Rebecca is making the comeback of a century. The internet is finally waking up to how incredible she is. She’s a supernova exploding before us.
In case you haven’t been following Rebecca, let me explain: she has indeed been making lots of music since “Friday.” That includes an EP in 2021, and then her first full-length album in 2023, called “Let Her Burn.”
Rebecca also recently DJ’ed a Boiler Room set, where she closed her set with a killer mash-up of “Friday” and “360” by Charli xcx. And of course, the crowd went WILD. It made me realize that “Friday” was actually super ahead of its time.
But all of that has led to this moment: the release of another Rebecca single called “TRUST!” which came out Oct. 18. And WOW, the song is such a vibe!!! It’s a hyperpop banger, and definitely a fun continuation of this summer’s “brat” era.
In the music video — which came out alongside the song — Rebecca made the genius decision to reference the “Friday” phenomenon in several hilarious ways.
The video starts with a series of clips of people talking about Rebecca (just like in Mean Girls). “She’s been Auto-Tuned so much, even Siri sounds more natural,” one person says. “I heard she’s banned from singing in seven countries,” another continues. LOL!!!
Then, we see flashing lights, with a bunch of people dancing in a party-type setting, while news clips play in the background — and they’re all about “Friday.” “Breaking news tonight: Rebecca Black is accused of viral fame for her hit song ‘Friday,'” one news announcer says.
The rest of the video is set in a courtroom, and there’s one clip of a newspaper with the headline “Friday was just the beginning.” In an interview with Paper Magazine, Rebecca explained these choices: “Everything I breathe is laced with camp these days and this concept felt like turning a narrative on its head in a fierce and unapologetic way.”
Since the song came out, soooo many people on the internet have suddenly realized how incredible Rebecca Black is. We’re all old enough to remember “Friday,” and it’s a delightful hit of nostalgia to see her referencing it — but regardless, it’s clear she’s a pop princess who is here to STAY.

I love Rebecca Black because I don’t think anybody in the music industry has been able to do what she has done 13 years post Friday.
Like she really kept going. I remember reading about how she was s*icidal because of the ridicule. That’s my bitch 😭😭😭❤️
