Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers have dug up Donald Trump’s legal troubles to make bail possible for the music mogul.
As Diddy awaits trial, his legal team’s repetitive requests for bail have been denied by the judge. Prosecutors in the case argue that Diddy should be denied bail due to his witness tampering and attempts to sway the jury with strategic social media campaigns.
In court documents obtained by The Mirror, Sean Comb’s team highlights the United States v. Trump, which was a criminal case against Trump for alleged involvement in January 6 Capitol insurrection and attempts to overturn the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
In response to the prosecution’s argument that Diddy is making his loved ones contact witnesses, the defense claimed that Diddy’s attempts would be constitutionally protected as, like Trump, Diddy has “a greater constitutional claim than other trial participants… to speak out against the prosecution and the criminal trial process that seek to take away his liberty,” adding, “Accordingly, the Court should apply Trump’s heightened standard when considering Mr. Combs.”
They then said that Diddy would stop contacting witnesses if he’s granted bail. “If released Mr. Combs will accept any condition that instructs him to ‘avoid all contact with an alleged victim … and with a potential witness.'”
“While detained, however, and in the absence of such a condition, the status quo remains that Mr. Combs has a constitutional right to assist his lawyers in reaching out to witnesses,” they argued further.
