Soundgarden is set to launch their final album, that would include contributions from the late Chris Cornell.

The iconic rock group, which was a part of the grunge movement along with the bands Pearl Jam and Nirvana, would now be making their return to music, one final time.

Their legendary vocalist, Cornell, passed away by committing suicide in 2017 after a long battle with depression and Soundgarden last released their 2012 album, King Animal in his lifetime.

Now, in a conversation with Rolling Stone, the band’s lead guitarist, Kim Thayil revealed they are to release one more album that would feature Cornell’s vocals.

“Our objective and goal was always to complete that [album],” he told the outlet, adding, “I probably have OCD enough to not want to leave something unfinished or incomplete like that, so I think the more we can attend to our body of work and our catalog.”

Thayil continued, “I think everyone in the band feels that way. I don’t just to attend to my work, but the collective work, and in this case specifically, the work of Chris.”

“I have pride for what I did and I want to see that come out. It doesn’t exist in the vacuum. It exists as a collaboration with Matt [Cameron] and Ben [Shepherd] and Chris, but it takes on an entirely different weight when you think about what it is you’re honoring, and the work that you’re paying tribute to,” the 64-year-old musician added.

“It is us collectively. We want to do it proud. And that part of us is certainly one of the most intimate components of what Soundgarden has been since 1984,” he concluded.

It is also pertinent to mention that Soundgarden is set to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the 2025 class, with their founding bassist Hiro Yamamoto, who appeared on the band’s first two albums, to be included as well.
