Stevie Nicks earns credit for Kenny Loggins’ career breakthrough
Kenny Loggins has credited Stevie Nicks for his solo career breakthrough.
In a new documentary, Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary, Loggins revealed how an offer from Fleetwood Mac’s Nicks helped launch his career.
Loggins, who joined Fleetwood Mac as the opening act on their Rumours Tour in 1977, became friends with Mick Fleetwood and Nicks.
He revealed, “She said to me one day, probably we were drunk, she said, ‘If you need a chick singer, give me a call.’ So I said, ‘OK, I got that going for me.’”
Taking the offer from her, Loggins collaborated with Nicks on Whenever I Call You Friend, which became a major hit in 1978.
It is worth mentioning that the song, featured on his debut solo album Nightwatch, climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“There was some bounce back from going solo. I didn’t realize at the time how difficult it was to go from a successful duo into being a successful soloist, and I credit Stevie Nicks a lot with my breakthrough, because it was the duet with Stevie that ultimately made a huge difference in launching my solo career, ’cause she was so loved at the time,'” he shared.
