The iconic actress Stockard Channing has revealed the “harsh” reality of relationships, embracing single life at 80.
In an interview with The Times, Channing, who will turn 81 in February 2025, shared a rare update about her life and explained why she is not looking for a partner.
Articulating her thoughts, she quipped, “No, I think that would be such a pain in the ass. I’m consolidating, thank you very much. I’m very happy with the friends I have. No. Life is good. Life is very good.”
The Primetime Emmy Award-winning actress went on to shed light on her new theatre job, saying, “It is sort of great for me to be working with people so much younger than myself right now. I consciously try to be in the moment.”
“We’re a very happy company, we all get along. It’s not that it’s gonna be new best friends, I don’t mean that. I think it’s just incredibly important to update the file — fluff the pillows, change the sheets, you know. It’s a balancing act,” the Practical Magic actress noted.
For the unversed, Channing, who tied the knot four times, was married to Walter Channing Jr., Paul Schmidt, David Debin, and David Rawle.
While conversing with The Guardian in 2006, she reflected on her divorces by uttering, “What have I learned from my divorces? I know that nobody gets married to get divorced. I don’t think I’ll get married another time.”
Notably, the star of Where the Heart Is was in a long relationship with cinematographer Daniel Gillham, who embraced death in 2014.
Despite facing challenges in her romantic life, Stockard Channing made her name in the world of entertainment, and currently, she plays the role of Clytemnestra in the West End play Elektra.
It is pertinent to mention that the West End play Elektra, a revival of Sophocles’s Greek tragedy directed by Daniel Fish, will run from January 24 to April 12, 2025, at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London.
