The Director Of “Bridesmaids” Revealed There Are Multiple Versions Of One Of The Most Iconic Scenes

“It took us nine test screens to get the balance right, because some were too gross, and some weren’t gross enough.”
We can all agree that Bridesmaids is one of the funniest comedies of the 21st century.

It’s packed with quotable moments and memorable scenes; and one of the most unforgettable is THAT bathroom scene.

To some, it’s one of the funniest moments in the movie, but it’s a bit too icky for some people’s liking.
Well, when Bridesmaid’s director Paul Feig sat down with us to talk about his latest film, Another Simple Favour, he revealed that there’s much more to see than what made the final cut.

BuzzFeed UK
Speaking to BuzzFeed UK, Paul revealed that the famous bathroom scene wasn’t part of the original script – they had initially planned a fantasy scene where Annie imagined herself as the wealthy success she’d pretended to be to impress Helen.

But during the rewrites with writer Annie Mumulo and Kristin Wiig, they thought Annie needed to face a bit more of a “comeuppance,” and decided vomiting and diarrhoea were the perfect way to go.

We can all agree that public bouts of food poisoning are incredibly humbling, IYKYK (but I hope you don’t).
When it came to the day of filming, Kristin was nervous about the scene being “really gross,” but Paul told her to go for it, assuring her that they’d film multiple versions and see which one worked best.
Universal Pictures
It took nine test screens to strike the right balance, and Paul revealed the details of one take that was just too disgusting for the silver screen.
One of them involved Becca (Ellie Kemper) completely desecrating the bridal shop owner’s office, after being unable to find another toilet – “It’s completely white, beautiful, and she projectile vomits across the office, all over [the owner’s] wedding photo,” Paul shared.
Universal Pictures
Though Paul found it very funny, he conceded that it was “too much.”
I don’t know about you, but gross or not, I really want to see these lost scenes. And luckily for us, Paul agrees that it would be great to dig up some of this old footage – watch the full discussion with Paul below!
