This Is Why “Dancing Through Life” In “Wicked” Has Way More Meaning Than You Might Think
For reference, Wicked is a loose adaptation of the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which in turn was inspired by the 1900 L. Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 film adaptation.
In terms of timeline, Wicked begins several years before The Wizard of Oz takes place, and ends shortly afterward.
It first transitioned to the stage in San Francisco back in 2003, and part one of the movie adaptation takes us up to what would be the interval in the theater production.
Part two of Wicked is due for release next year, and will pick up where the first movie left off — which is the second act of the stage show.
