Zoë Kravitz Has Been Fighting To Get “High Fidelity” Back On Our Screens, But She Said Hulu’s “Not Interested”

During the height of the pandemic and the various lockdown restrictions implemented, a lot of us were confined to our homes with only screens to entertain us. With that came the birth of a lot of comfort shows, and for me, one of them was High Fidelity.
Hulu’s High Fidelity starred Zoë Kravitz as a record store owner named Rob as she breaks down her biggest heartbreaks and the music she connects with them, all while trying to get over her one true love — the biggest heartbreak of them all. She runs the store with her two best friends, Cherise (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) and Simon (David H. Holmes).
While Kingsley Ben-Adir played her true love, Mac.
The show, which premiered on Valentine’s Day 2020, was inspired by the 2000 cult classic of the same name starring John Cusack and Zoë’s mom Lisa Bonet. Both were adaptations of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel High Fidelity.
Despite the cult following and the rave reviews, the series was canceled after one season. Since the show’s demise, Zoë has been very vocal about Hulu not giving it a chance to grow.
In 2022, Zoë did an interview with Elle, venting her frustration with the decision. “It was a big mistake,” she said of the cancellation.
“They didn’t realize what that show was and what it could do,” said Zoë — who was not only the series lead, but also an executive producer and writer on the show.
“The amount of letters, DMs, people on the street, and women that look like us — like, that love for the show, it meant something to people.”
I was one of the fans gutted when I found out the show wouldn’t be coming back. Whenever there’s a discussion about shows canceled too soon, I bring up High Fidelity faithfully.

I watch it once a year, along with my other comfort shows, Living Single and Laguna Beach.
